Shoulder the rifle is a fabulous tie (although it is tricky to find ways of making it stay in place with slidy nylon rope). It's a dramatic position which benefits from dramatic lighting, which is when I went for cross-lighting. Two lights more or less pointing at each other, at a bit of an angle to the model, can produce very lovely results. I went for a slightly harder but tighter light behind by using a beauty dish with a honeycomb grid on it. This is very inefficient (you lose a lot of light) but it produces a broad, soft, but relatively well-defined spot or beam of light. It's great for picking out edges and a bit of hair-light on brunettes like Lauren Louise. The opposing light was a small softbox- a bit of a wider spread, less collimated. The only thing to watch out for is eyes going dark and missing catchlights. Sometimes I put in a very small front fill mid-way between the two lights just for that purpose: in this case, a continuous ring-light. It does next to nothing but can sometimes rescue dead shark eye.
