This was the last set of the year Ariel and I shot in 2015, and it didn't quite work out as planned. I'd had an idea for

a low-ish light look and I decided to try it with my Hasslblad. But I needed to hand-hold it at 1/100th of a second, and

with the high resolution of medium format that's not really enough without flash to freeze the motion. And I also made a

lighting pattern that was a bit too contrasty for some shots (because at the time I had limited continuous light sources, and

the old CCD sensor on the Hasslblad doesn't have the noise-free properties of modern sensors).

The results were... mixed, which is why this set is a bit short and some of the shots have more camera shake or

subject motion blur if you zoom in to 1:1. It was actually shooting this set that made me decide I needed to add some

equipment to my kit room to cover just this shooting situation - continuous light, wide apertures, image stablisation,

low-noise sensor. It's a look we'd not done so much of for SilkSoles.com or RestrainedElegance.com to that point, and is

both beautiful and in-fashion at the moment.

Which is when I picked up my first Sony camera, the A7RII, which ticked all the boxes to make this style of photography

much easier to achieve. A bad workman blames his tools, but a professional has the right tools for the job!
